Description of Significance THIS SITE CONTAINS A SEGMENT OF THE OLD MILITARY ROAD CONSTRUCTED IN EASTERN OKLAHOMA IN 1832, RUNNING FROM FORT SMITH, ARKANSAS, TO FORT TOWSON, INDIAN TERRITORY. THIS ROAD HELPED TO OPEN THE THIS AREA FOR THE MOVEMENT OF INDIANS TO THE SOUTHWEST, AS WELL AS HORSES AND GOODS TO FORT SMITH. THIS ROAD LOCATION WAS USED UNTIL ABOUT 1932, WHEN THE ROADBED WAS MOVED TO THE WEST. THE NOMINATED SECTION OF ROADBED REPRESENTS THE BEST PRESERVED SEGMENT OF THE ORIGINAL ROAD. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 10/22/1976.
